Sessions over Christmas

Below is a link to the STG timetable for December.  In between Christmas and New Year there are limited ride and run sessions on offer and no official STG swim sessions but there are swim sets included in the programs on Training Peaks.  Full training will kick off again on Friday 2 January with the Run/Strength session.

Melbourne Ironman program starts 5 January

By popular demand and plenty of lobbying the Melbourne Ironman program will official begin on 5 January and will include a challenging 5 days of swimming, riding and running around the Snowy Mountains at the STG Training Camp.  On that, we still have a few spots left for the camp so drop me an email if you would like to come along.

STG Triathlon Championships update

The commentary below is based on results up to Kurnell race 2.

Please note that if you have an upward pointing arrow by your name you are currently not eligible for the “Champion” title (or prizes) due to you not being a member of STG Triathlon Club so if you want to be in the running, please join the club when you join Triathlon Australia.

In the ladies comp Urs Moloney  (3660 points-4 races-915 average) has rocketed into first place after completing Ironman WA which was her fourth race of the season.  Alex Rudge is in second place and is still the title favourite with the highest point score average to date (2355 points-2 race completed – 1178 average ).  After her 2nd place age group finish at Kurnell, Cathy Verry has moved into 3rd spot (2042 points-2 races-1021 average) and she is followed closely by coach Faith Geraghty (1148 points-1 race-1148 average) who has only completed one race to date.

On the men’s front, Gary Maher’s excellent performance in the Western Sydney 70.3 will see him go into the Christmas break in first place (3480 points –3 races-1160 average).  He is followed by Simon Hatlee (2328 points-2 races-1164 average)  who also had a great race at Western Sydney, setting a PB over the distance.  Last year’s champ Steve Ellis, is currently holding down 3rd spot (2312 points–2 races-1156 average).  Marcello Mazza though has emerged as the hot favourite for the men’s title following his top 40 overall place at Western Sydney and his massive 1235 point score (1235 points-1 race-1235 average).

If you are not familiar with the rules, below is a link to a page on the website which explains everything.

The Pool Band – Why do we use it?

Below is an excellent article on why we use pool bands during swim sessions.  Make sure you also watch the you tube video.  With the use of a pool band it offers a fantastic explanation as to why it’s important to keep a good stroke rate and eliminate dead spots from the stroke.
