NSW Tri Club Champs wrap…STG winners!

The 2017 NSW Tri Club Champs proved a real success despite the long drive up and over the mountains to Orange (are we there yet?) and Scottish like conditions on race day, including wind gusts up to 45km an hr. The Club Champs STG crew included old and new members and some came out of semi-retirement to dust off or borrow club kit to proudly represent the red, black and white…and represent we did winning division 3! The team divided and conquered and of course this couldn’t have been done without our new coach Sam Douglas leading the way – who crossed the line first and fastest in his AG and as STG represent finishing in a speedy 1 hr 29 49 secs.

Amongst the rest of the team, Steve Ellis finished in a flash with a time of 1 hr 45 57 secs, followed closely behind by Dean Ormston and Nick Cunningham and Gary Maher. Super mum Nicola Ellis led the way for the ladies with an amazing comeback race finishing in 1hr 55 20 secs – less than 10 minutes behind Steve! Jane Robertson and Ciara Lui rounded out the podium finish for the STG ladies, finishing mere minutes apart. Full race results below.

Great races by all the team in challenging conditions and an ‘interesting’ course – which included pristine water (read muddy and turbulent) and a slight incline on the bike course (read lots of hills, pot holes and THAT WIND) and part of a trail run.  Special mentions must go to Harrison, our youngest member – finishing in the top 10 of his age group and Alaina McGregor who despite a painful injury managed to get through the run and was rewarded with a Reidy hug. And Asha Hum  eventually won the battle with her wetsuit in T1!

Roll on to presentation night…as a new club rule the team decided we would make the effort to go to the presentation night …and so glad we did! Soon after we arrived we were announced as the winner of division 3! Winner winner chicken dinner…and let the celebrations begin!!

Big congratulations to all who raced and represented the club and many thanks to the support crew on the day at the event (including the next generation of STG) and all cheering from home.
